Why we love it

Set in the heart of the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest, the Daintree Ecolodge combines nature, nurture and culture in a pure rainforest environment. Nestled amongst the foliage, the Daintree Ecolodge showcases 15 eco-friendly bayans (treehouses) immersed in the breathtaking rainforest canopy. Rise to the sound of the birds in the rainforest above, breathe-in the fresh tropical air and discover the lodge's private onsite waterfall on a leisurely stroll through the enchanting rainforest. The Daintree Ecolodge provides the perfect base to explore the treasures of the Daintree region.

Food

The resident Julaymba Restaurant offers a modern, sustainable and seasonal menu that harnesses the true flavours and native produce of Far North Queensland. On the menu, you can expect to find Australian heroes such as quandong, lemon myrtle, barramundi, kangaroo and crocodile. ‘Julaymba’ is the indigenous word for the Daintree and the restaurant inspires diners to remember the eternal relationship between environment and food. An immersive degustation dining experience, paired to matching wines, can also be arranged in a private and romantic rainforest setting.

Destination

Believed to be over 135 million years old, and the oldest tropical lowland rainforest on Earth, the Daintree Rainforest is a rare and precious botanical treasure. The Daintree’spositioning alongside the Great Barrier Reef makes it the only place in the world where two UNESCO World Heritage-listed sites meet. The unique climate and history of the Daintree Rainforest has resulted in the highest concentration of plant and animal species in the world that are rare, or threatened with extinction.

The Daintree climate is tropical year-round with the weather during the dry season, roughly May to October, offering balmy days and pleasantly cool evenings with low humidity. The dry season tends to be the most popular season for travel.

Experiences

Why not explore the neighbouring sights and request a gourmet picnic hamper for your lunch in the rainforest. The hampers are designed to provide guests with the freshest, premium and organic treats the local area has to offer. Daintree Ecolodge has so many experiences that really allow you to become one with nature, including Guided Rainforest Walks, Daintree River Cruises, Great Barrier Reef charters, Fishing Expeditions, Bird Watching, Jungle Surfing Zip-line and exploring Mossman Gorge.

Getting there

The Daintree Ecolodge is located 90 minutes north of Cairns, on one of Australia’s most spectacular drives. Departing Cairns on the Captain Cook Highway, follow the signs along the sealed coastal drive to Port Douglas, Mossman and Daintree Village. The lodge is nestled on the southern banks of the impressive Daintree River so a ferry crossing is not required. Self-driving is recommended, while transfers can be arranged upon request.

Accommodation

All bayans are nestled amongst the canopy of the world’s oldest living rainforest. The eco-awarded accommodation embraces the ancient rainforest surrounds and showcases open-plan living and screened-in balconies to ensure you wake to the gentle sounds of nature whilst still enjoying your creature comforts. All stays at the Daintree Ecolodge include daily à la carte breakfast. For a true rainforest encounter and the chance to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of modern-day life, the bayans don’t have TVs or WI-FI.
